How to troubleshoot Trooli internet speed issues

Trooli Internet speed test - Slow Internet speed

Before you begin troubleshooting the speed of your Trooli internet connection, we recommend that you perform a Trooli Broadband Speedtest to confirm your current internet speed.

You may also want to find out the minimum download speed that you are paying for from Trooli.

You can find this info by checking a Trooli broadband bill, your Trooli contract or by contacting Trooli.

Possible causes of Trooli’s slow internet performance

Is it the Trooli internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to consider how many applications are running on your device.

The speed problem could be due to over-utilization of your system resources e.g RAM/CPU Processor and not an issue with Trooli’s internet connection.

If you are on a PC then you may use the task manager to see your Processor and Memory utilization.

On other device, you should try restarting the device which hopefully should terminate all applications that may be hogging your device resources.

Run the Trooli Speedtest on your personal computer and your mobile to check how the results differ between the 2 devices.

Hopefully this should give you more info to help determine if the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the Trooli broadband connection.

Is the Wi-Fi network the reason for the issues?

The root cause of the performance issue may be your wireless network and not the Trooli internet connection.

You could rule out the wireless by connecting your PC directly to the Trooli broadband router using a network cable and run the Trooli Speed test again.

If the speed test result improves when you are connected using an ethernet cable, this proves that the issue may be with your Wifi.

Possible things to look further into:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you are using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
  • Is your Wifi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
  • Does your performance improve when your are standing right infront of the Trooli internet router?

Exactly who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an open wireless network? How secure is your Wi-Fi network password? It may be time to change it.

Others could be using your Wifi network and using up all the Trooli bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Trooli broadband connection! Worse than that, they may be carrying out illegal activities over your Trooli internet connection.

Trooli wireless not working

There are 3 applications that you can utlise to scan your wireless network to check who’s connected:

The above software will scan your Wifi network and produce a list of the connected devices.

Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my Trooli broadband?

If you discover that you have Wifi black holes at your home, a wireless network extender aka a Wifi Booster is the best fix to increase your Wi-Fi signal to cover any black holes.

The wireless extender simply picks up the existing Wifi network signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the wireless network signal to extend it’s reach.

Position the Wi-Fi network booster near where your Wi-Fi network signal from the Trooli internet router is becoming weaker.

Position it near where your Wifi signal drops down to two signal bars. Walk around your property with a tablet to determine where this location is.

When was the last time you upgraded the Trooli broadband router?

Trooli router upgrade

The Trooli and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently updated to provide new features and improve reliability as technology evolves.  Ensure that the Trooli broadband router is running on the most up to date software.

Most Trooli broadband routers allow you to perform the software upgrade by simply logging into the Trooli broadband router and simply clicking a button to start the upgrade.

If you cannot do this, contact Trooli and they will be able to do this for you or guide you through performing the upgrade yourself.

In addition to upgrading the software, if you have had the same router for a long time, it’s probably worth talking to Trooli to request for a router upgrade.

Is the problem outside your property (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common reason for Trooli broadband performance problems in your home and is more common with broadband connections that are delivered through copper phone lines.

If you are not sure if this is applicable to you, contact Trooli who will be able to carry out the appropriate connection checks to check if there is a problem on the Trooli broadband line.

Is it because of Trooli broadband congestion?

If you are finding that the Trooli internet connection speed in your area is slows down during certain periods i.e. weekends and during the evening, then it may be due to congestion during peak hours.

You should speak to Trooli to check your guaranteed speed.
