How to troubleshoot eXwavia internet performance issues

Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your eXwavia broadband connection, we recommend that you perform a eXwavia Internet Speed Test to confirm your current broadband speed.
It is a good idea to also find out the minimum download speed you have subscribed to from eXwavia.
You can get this information by checking your eXwavia broadband bill, your eXwavia contract or by contacting eXwavia.
Likely causes of eXwavia’s slow internet speed
Is it the eXwavia internet connection that is running slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?
You may need to check how many applications are currently running on your device.
The performance problem may be due to the over-utilization of your device’s resources i.e RAM/CPU and not an issue with eXwavia’s internet connection.
If you are on a laptop then you can use the task manager to see your Processor and RAM utilization.
On other device, you could try restarting the device which hopefully should kill all programs that may be hogging your systems resources.
Run the eXwavia Speedtest on your computer and your mobile to check how the results differ between the 2 devices.
Hopefully this should provide you with more information to work with in terms of whether the problem is with your device or the eXwavia internet connection.

Is the Wifi network the reason for the issues?
The cause of the performance problem could be your wireless network and not the eXwavia broadband internet connection.
You can rule out the Wi-Fi network by simply connecting your computer directly to the eXwavia broadband router using an ethernet cable and run the eXwavia Speedtest again.
If the speed is better when you’re connected via a network cable, this shows that the problem could be with the Wifi.
Possible things to check:
- Are the Wireless channels that you’re using for your wireless network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
- Is the Wifi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does your performance get better when your are stood right infront of the eXwavia wireless router?
Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been hacked? Do you have an open Wi-Fi network? How strong is your Wifi network password? It may be time to update it.
Neighbors could be using your Wi-Fi network and using up all the eXwavia speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video over your eXwavia internet connection! Worse still, they may be conducting illegal activities on your eXwavia internet connection.

There are three applications to use to analyze your Wi-Fi network to check who’s connected:
- Microsoft Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- IOS users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wireless network scanning application WiFi Analyzer
The above apps analyse your wireless network and display a list of the connected devices.
Do I need a Wifi booster for my eXwavia broadband?
You may find that you have wireless black holes in your property, a wireless extender also known as a Wifi Booster is the best solution to increase your wireless signal to cover any coverage gaps.
The Wi-Fi network booster simply picks up the existing Wifi network signal as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to extend it’s reach.
Position the wireless booster/extender near the position where your wireless network signal from the eXwavia broadband router is becoming weaker.
Position it near where your Wifi signal drops down to 2 signal bars. Walk around your property with a mobile phone to try and establish where this is.
When was the last time you upgraded the eXwavia broadband router?

The eXwavia and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently updated to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Always ensure that the eXwavia broadband router is running on the most up to date software.
Most eXwavia broadband routers allow you to carry out the software upgrade by simply logging into the eXwavia broadband router and simply clicking on a button to start the update.
If you can’t do this, get in touch with eXwavia and they will be able to perform the upgrade for you or alternatively, talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.
In addition to updating the software, if you have had the same hardware for a long period, it’s probably worth speaking to eXwavia to request for a router upgrade.
Is the problem outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most likely cause for eXwavia broadband performance problems in your home and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered using copper phone lines.
If you’re unsure if this is applicable to you, contact eXwavia who will be able to carry out the relevant connection tests to see if there is a problem on the eXwavia broadband connection.
Is the issue due to eXwavia Internet congestion?
If you’re finding that the eXwavia broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain times i.e. weekends and evenings, then it may be because of congestion during peak times.
You should contact eXwavia to find out your guaranteed speed.
