How to troubleshoot BeyonDSL broadband speed problems

BeyonDSL Internet Speedchecker - Slow broadband speed

Before starting to troubleshoot the speed of your BeyonDSL internet connection, we suggest that you run a BeyonDSL Internet Speedtest to benchmark your current internet speed.

You may also want to confirm the minimum download speed that you have subscribed to from BeyonDSL.

You can get this information by checking a BeyonDSL broadband bill, your BeyonDSL contract or by contacting BeyonDSL.

Possible causes of BeyonDSL’s slow internet speed

Is it your BeyonDSL broadband that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You may need to check how many apps are currently running on your device.

The speed issue may be due to over-utilization of your system resources i.e RAM/memory/CPU and not an issue with BeyonDSL’s broadband connection.

If you’re on a PC then you can use the task manager to check your Processor and RAM utilization.

On other device, you could try rebooting the device which hopefully will terminate all apps that may have been hogging your device resources.

Re-run the BeyonDSL Speed test on your computer and your mobile phone to check how the results differ between the two devices.

Hopefully this should give you more info to help determine if the problem lies with your PC/Smartphone or the BeyonDSL broadband connection.

Is the wireless network the reason for the issues?

The root cause of the performance issue may be your Wi-Fi network as opposed to the BeyonDSL broadband internet connection.

You can rule out the Wifi by simply connecting your computer directly into the BeyonDSL broadband router with a network cable and run the BeyonDSL Speed checker again.

If the speed improves when you’re connected by an ethernet cable, this shows that the problem could be with your Wifi network.

A few other things to check:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you’re using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
  • Is your wireless network signal from the internet router obstructed?
  • Does the performance improve when your are stood right in-front of the BeyonDSL internet router?

Exactly who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured wireless network? How secure is your Wifi network password? It may be time to update it.

Neighbors could be using your Wi-Fi network and using up all your BeyonDSL bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your BeyonDSL internet connection! Worse still, they may be conducting illegal activities using your BeyonDSL broadband connection.

BeyonDSL WiFi Slow

There are 3 apps to utlise to analyze your Wifi network to check who is connected:

The above apps will scan your wireless network and show you a list of the everything on your wifi.

Do I need a wireless network booster for my BeyonDSL broadband?

If you find that you have wireless black holes at your property, a Wi-Fi network extender aka a Wifi Booster is the best fix to boost your Wi-Fi signal to cover any coverage gaps.

The wireless extender picks up the existing wireless signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to extend it’s coverage.

Place the wireless network extender near where your Wi-Fi network signal from your BeyonDSL broadband router is starting to become weaker.

Place it approximately where your Wifi signal is dropping down to less than 2 signal bars. Walk around your home with a tablet to determine where this location is.

When was the last time you upgraded the BeyonDSL broadband router?

BeyonDSL ISP router upgrade

The BeyonDSL and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently updated to support new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Ensure that your BeyonDSL broadband internet router is running on the most up to date software.

The majority of BeyonDSL broadband routers allow you to perform the software upgrade by simply logging into the BeyonDSL broadband router and simply clicking on a button to perform the update.

If you can’t do this, get in touch with BeyonDSL and they will be able to do this for you or alternatively, talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.

As well as updating the software, if you have had router for a long time, it’s worth speaking to BeyonDSL to ask for a router upgrade.

Is the root cause of the issue external to your home (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common reason for BeyonDSL broadband performance issues in your area and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered via phone lines.

If you are not sure if this is relevant in your case, you should contact BeyonDSL who should be able to conduct the relevant connection tests to check if there is a issue on the BeyonDSL internet connection.

Is the performance issue due to BeyonDSL broadband congestion?

If you’re finding that the BeyonDSL broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain periods i.e. weekends or during the evening, then it may be because of congestion during peak times.

You should contact BeyonDSL to find out your guaranteed speed.
