How to troubleshoot Kijoma internet speed problems

Kijoma Internet Speedchecker - Slow Internet speed

Before starting to troubleshoot the performance of your Kijoma broadband connection, we suggest that you run a Kijoma Internet Speedtest to measure your current broadband speed.

It is also a good idea confirm the minimum download speed you are paying for from Kijoma.

You can find this info by checking a Kijoma broadband bill, your Kijoma contract or by contacting Kijoma.

Probable causes of Kijoma’s slow internet performance

Is it your Kijoma internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to consider the number of apps are running on your device.

The performance problem could be due to the over-utilization of your system resources i.e RAM/memory/CPU and not an issue with Kijoma’s internet connection.

If you’re on a laptop then you may use the task manager to check your Processor and RAM usage.

On any other device, you could try restarting the device which hopefully will shutdown all apps that may have been using up your device resources.

Re-run the Kijoma Speed test on your PC and your mobile phone to check how the results differ between the two devices.

Hopefully this should give you some information to work with in terms of whether the problem lies with your device or the Kijoma broadband connection.

Is the wireless the reason for the issues?

The cause of the performance problem could be your Wifi as opposed to the Kijoma internet connection.

You can rule out the Wi-Fi network by simply connecting your PC directly into the Kijoma broadband router with a network cable and then run the Kijoma Speed test again.

If the result is better when you’re connected using a network cable, this indicates that the problem could be with your internal wireless network.

A number of things to look further into:

  • Are the WiFi channels that you are using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
  • Is the wireless network signal from the wireless router obstructed?
  • Does your speed get better when you’re stood directly in-front of the Kijoma broadband router?

Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an open wireless network? How secure is your Wifi network password? It may be time to change it.

Neighbors could be using your wireless network and using up all the Kijoma speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your Kijoma internet connection! Worse than that, they could be conducting illegal activities over your Kijoma internet connection.

Kijoma wireless Lagging

Here are three applications to utlise to analyse your wireless network to see who’s connected:

The above applications scan your Wifi network and produce a list of the everything on your wifi.

Do I need a wireless network booster for my Kijoma broadband?

If you find that there are wireless black spots at your house, a Wi-Fi network extender also known as a Wi-Fi Booster is the best fix to increase your Wifi signal to cover any coverage gaps.

The Wi-Fi network booster picks up the existing Wi-Fi network signal as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to extend it’s reach.

Place the wireless network booster near the position where your wireless network signal from your Kijoma internet router is becoming weaker.

Position it approximately where your Wi-Fi network signal drops down to two bars. Walk around your home with a smartphone to determine where this is.

When was the last time you upgraded the Kijoma broadband router?

Kijoma broadband router upgrade

The Kijoma and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to support new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Ensure that the Kijoma broadband internet router is running on the latest software.

The majority of Kijoma internet routers allow you to carry out the software upgrade by simply logging on the Kijoma broadband router and simply clicking on a button to perform the update.

If you can’t do this, get in touch with Kijoma and they will do this for you or alternatively, guide you through performing the upgrade yourself.

In addition to updating the software, if you have had the same hardware for a long time, it’s probably worth speaking to Kijoma to request for a hardware upgrade.

Is the root cause of the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most likely reason for Kijoma broadband performance problems in your property and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered via copper phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is relevant in your case, contact Kijoma who should be able to carry out the appropriate connection tests to check if there is a problem on the Kijoma broadband line.

Is it because of Kijoma Internet congestion?

If you are finding that the Kijoma internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods i.e. weekends or evenings, it may be because of congestion during peak hours.

You should contact Kijoma to check your minimum speed.
