How to troubleshoot Glide broadband speed problems

Before you begin troubleshooting the speed of your Glide internet connection, we suggest that you run a Glide Broadband Speedtest to confirm your current broadband speed.
Also find out the minimum download speed you have subscribed to from Glide.
You can find this information by checking your Glide broadband bill, your Glide contract or by contacting Glide.
Probable causes of Glide’s slow broadband speed
Is it the Glide internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You need to consider the number of applications are running on your device.
The performance issue may be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources i.e RAM/CPU and as opposed to an issue with Glide’s internet connection.
If you are on a PC then you may use the task manager to check your CPU and Memory utilization.
On any other device, you could try rebooting the device which should hopefully kill all programs that may be hogging your device resources.
Run the Glide Speed test on your personal computer and your mobile to see how the results differ between the two devices.
Hopefully this should give you some info to help determine whether the problem is with your device or the Glide broadband connection.

Is the wireless the reason for the issues?
The cause of the performance issue could be your wireless and not the Glide internet connection.
You can rule out the Wifi by simply connecting your PC directly into the Glide broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the Glide Speedtest again.
If the speed checker result is better when you’re connected via an ethernet cable, this shows that the problem may be with the Wifi.
A number of things to check:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
- Is your Wifi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does the performance improve when you’re stood right infront of the Glide broadband router?
Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your wireless network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured Wifi network? How complex is your wireless network password? It may be time to change it.
Neighbours could be on your Wifi network and using up all your Glide speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Glide broadband connection! Worse than that, they could be carrying out illegal activities on your Glide broadband connection.

Here are three apps that you can utlise to scan your wireless network to check who’s connected:
- Microsoft users can use Wireless network watcher
- Apple users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- Wireless scanning tool WiFi Analyzer
The above software will scan your Wi-Fi network and display a list of the connected devices.
Do I need a Wifi booster for my Glide broadband?
You may discover that there are Wifi coverage holes in your property, a wireless extender aka a wireless Booster may be the best fix to boost your Wifi signal to cover any coverage gaps.
The wireless extender picks up your existing Wifi signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to increase it’s coverage.
Place the wireless network booster where your wireless network signal from your Glide broadband router is becoming weaker.
Place it approximately where your Wifi network signal drops down to less than two signal bars. Walk around your property with a smartphone to determine where this location is.
When was the last time you upgraded the Glide broadband router?

The Glide and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Ensure that your Glide internet router is running the latest software.
The majority of Glide broadband routers will allow you to perform the software update by simply logging on the Glide broadband router and simply clicking on a button to start the update.
If you can’t do this, contact Glide and they will be able to do this for you or alternatively, guide you through the process.
In addition to upgrading the software, if you have had hardware for a long period, it’s probably worth talking to Glide to request for a router upgrade.
Is the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most common reason for Glide broadband performance issues in your area and is more common for broadband connections that are delivered through copper phone lines.
If you are unsure if this is relevant in your case, you should contact Glide who should be able to run the relevant line checks to see if there is a problem on the Glide broadband line.
Is the issue due to Glide broadband congestion?
If you’re finding that the Glide internet connection speed in your area is slows down during certain times e.g weekends or during the evening, then it may be because of congestion during peak times.
You should contact Glide to check your guaranteed speed.
