Troubleshooting AirBand internet speed issues
Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your AirBand broadband connection, we suggest that you perform a AirBand Broadband Speedtest to confirm your current internet speed.
It is also a good idea find out the minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from AirBand.
You can get this information by checking your AirBand broadband bill, your AirBand contract or by contacting AirBand.
Probable causes of AirBand’s slow broadband speed
Is it the AirBand internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You may need to consider the number of apps are running on your device.
The speed problem could be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources i.e RAM/CPU Processor and not an issue with AirBand’s internet connection.
If you are on a PC then you can use the task manager to check your CPU and Memory utilisation.
On other device, you should try rebooting the device which hopefully should kill all programs that may be using up system resources.
Re-run the AirBand Speed checker on your personal computer and your mobile to check how the speedtest results differ between the two devices.
This should hopefully give you some information to help determine if the problem is with your PC/Smartphone or the AirBand internet connection.

Is the wireless the problem?
The cause of the performance issue could be your Wi-Fi network as opposed to the AirBand broadband internet connection.
You could rule out the wireless network by simply connecting your PC directly to the AirBand broadband router using an ethernet cable and run the AirBand Speed checker again.
If the speed checker result is better when you’re connected via a network cable, this shows that the issue may be with the Wifi.
A number of things to check:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wifi network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbours?
- Is your Wi-Fi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does your speed improve when your are standing right infront of the AirBand wireless router?
Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your wireless network password has not been hacked? Do you have an open Wi-Fi network? How complex is your wireless network password? It may be time to change it.
Others could be on your Wi-Fi network and eating up all the AirBand speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos over your AirBand internet connection! Worse still, they could be carrying out illegal activities using your AirBand broadband connection.
There are three applications that you can use to analyse your Wi-Fi network to see who is connected:
- Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- IOS users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wifi network troubleshooting application WiFi Analyzer
The above software scan your Wi-Fi network and show you a list of the connected devices.
Should I get a Wifi booster for my AirBand broadband?
You may find that there are Wifi black holes at your property, a wireless extender aka a Wi-Fi Booster may be the best solution to increase your Wifi signal to cover any coverage gaps.
The wireless booster picks up the existing wireless network signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to extend it’s coverage.
Place the Wifi extender near where your wireless network signal from your AirBand broadband router is becoming weaker.
Position it approximately where your wireless network signal drops down to less than two bars. Walk around your home with a tablet to try and establish where this is.
When was the last time you upgraded the AirBand internet router?
The AirBand and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently upgraded to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Always ensure that the AirBand broadband internet router is running the most up to date software.
The majority of AirBand broadband routers allow you to carry out the software update by simply logging into the AirBand broadband router and simply clicking on a button to do the update.
If you cannot do this, get in touch with AirBand and they will do this for you or alternatively, guide you through the process.
In addition to upgrading the software, if you have had the same router for a long time, it’s probably worth talking to AirBand to request for a hardware upgrade.
Is the fault outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most common reason for AirBand broadband performance problems in your home and it’s more common for internet broadband connections that are delivered using copper phone lines.
If you are unsure if this is applicable to you, contact AirBand who will be able to conduct the appropriate line checks to check if there is a issue on the AirBand broadband line.
Is the issue because of AirBand broadband congestion?

You should speak to AirBand to check your guaranteed speed.
