How to troubleshoot BeyonDSL broadband speed issues

BeyonDSL Internet Speedchecker - Slow broadband speed

Before you begin troubleshooting the speed of your BeyonDSL internet connection, we recommend that you run a BeyonDSL Broadband Speed Test to benchmark your current internet speed.

You may also want to find out the guaranteed minimum download speed you on your broadband package from BeyonDSL.

You can get this info by checking your BeyonDSL broadband bill, your BeyonDSL contract or by contacting BeyonDSL.

Potential causes of BeyonDSL’s slow broadband speed

Is it your BeyonDSL internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You may need to consider how many applications are currently running on your device.

The speed issue could be due to the over utilization of your device’s resources e.g RAM/CPU and as opposed to an issue with BeyonDSL’s broadband connection.

If you’re on a PC then you may use the task manager to see your Processor and RAM utilization.

On any other device, you should try rebooting the device which hopefully should shutdown all programs that may be using up your systems resources.

Re-run the BeyonDSL Speedtest on your PC and your phone to see how the speedtest results compare between the two devices.

This should hopefully provide you with more information to to help determine whether the issue lies with your device or the BeyonDSL internet connection.

Is the wireless the cause of the slowness?

The root cause of the performance issue could be your wireless as opposed to the BeyonDSL internet connection.

You can rule out the Wi-Fi network by simply connecting your PC directly into the BeyonDSL broadband router using an ethernet cable and then run the BeyonDSL Speedtest again.

If the result is better when you are connected using an ethernet cable, this suggests that the problem could be with your Wifi network.

A few other things to investigate:

  • Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your wireless network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
  • Is the Wifi signal from the internet router obstructed?
  • Does your speed improve when your are stood right infront of the BeyonDSL internet router?

Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been hacked? Do you have an un-secured Wifi network? How secure is your Wi-Fi network password? It may be time to update it.

Others could be using your Wifii network and using up all the BeyonDSL bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos over your BeyonDSL broadband connection! Worse than that, they may be carrying out illegal activities on your BeyonDSL broadband connection.

Here are 2 apps that you can use to scan your Wifi network to check who’s connected:

Both applications will scan your Wi-Fi network and display a list of the devices connected.

Do I need a wireless booster for my BeyonDSL broadband?

If you find that you have Wi-Fi black spots at your house, a Wi-Fi network extender also know as a Wi-Fi Booster is the best solution to strengthen your Wi-Fi signal to cover any black spots.

The Wi-Fi network extender simply picks up your existing Wi-Fi network signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to extend it’s reach.

Place the wireless booster near where your Wifi signal from the BeyonDSL broadband router is becoming weaker.

Position it approximately where your Wi-Fi network signal is dropping down to two signal bars. Walk around your home with a smartphone to try and establih where this is.

When was the last time you upgraded the BeyonDSL internet router?

The BeyonDSL and broadband infrastructure in general are constantly upgraded to provide new features and improve reliability as technology evolves.  Ensure that your BeyonDSL broadband router is running on the latest software.

Most BeyonDSL internet routers allow you to carry out the software update by logging into the BeyonDSL broadband router and simply clicking a button to perform the update.

If you can’t do this, contact BeyonDSL and they will perform the upgrade for you or alternatively, guide you through performing the upgrade yourself.

As well as upgrading the software, if you have had router for a long period, it’s probably worth speaking to BeyonDSL to ask for a hardware upgrade.

Is the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most likely reason for BeyonDSL broadband performance issue in your area and it’s more common for broadband connections that are delivered via cooper phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is relevant in your case, contact BeyonDSL who will be able to carry out the relevant connection checks to check if there is a problem on the BeyonDSL broadband line.

Is the performance issue due to BeyonDSL broadband congestion?

You should speak to BeyonDSL to check your guaranteed speed.
