How to troubleshoot BeyonDSL internet speed issues

Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your BeyonDSL internet connection, we suggest that you run a BeyonDSL Internet Speedtest to measure your current internet speed.

It is a good idea to also confirm the guaranteed minimum download speed you are paying for from BeyonDSL.

You can get this info by checking your BeyonDSL broadband bill, your BeyonDSL contract or by contacting BeyonDSL.

Possible causes of BeyonDSL’s slow broadband performance

Is it your BeyonDSL internet connection that is slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You may need to consider how many applications are currently running on your device.

The performance problem may be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources e.g RAM/CPU and as opposed to a problem with BeyonDSL’s broadband connection.

If you are on a computer then you may use the task manager to check your Processor and RAM utilization.

On other device, you should try restarting the device which should hopefully terminate all applications that may have been using up your systems resources.

Is the wireless the problem?

The cause of the performance problem may be your wireless network and not the BeyonDSL broadband internet connection.

You can rule out the Wifi network by simply connecting your PC directly to the BeyonDSL broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the BeyonDSL Speed test again.

If the result improves when you are connected via an ethernet cable, this indicates that the problem could be with the Wifi.

Possible things to check:

• Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
• Is your Wi-Fi network signal from the wireless router obstructed?
• Does your performance get better when you’re stood right infront of the BeyonDSL internet router?

Who’s connected to my Wi-Fi network?

Have you checked that your wireless network password has not been shared? Do you have an open wireless network? How complex is your wireless network password? It may be time to update it.

Neighbours could be using your Wifi network and eating up all your BeyonDSL bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your BeyonDSL internet connection! Worse than that, they may be conducting illegal activities using your BeyonDSL internet connection.

Should I get a Wi-Fi network booster for my BeyonDSL broadband?

You may find that you have Wi-Fi coverage gaps in your home, a wireless network extender also known as a wireless Booster is the best solution to increase your wireless signal to cover any black holes.

The wireless extender picks up the existing Wifi signal as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to increase it’s coverage.

This is probably the most common cause for BeyonDSL broadband performance issues in your area and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered through copper phone lines.

If you are not sure if this is relevant in your case, you should contact BeyonDSL who will be able to conduct the relevant connection tests to check if there is a issue on the BeyonDSL internet connection.

Is the issue because of BeyonDSL broadband congestion?

If you’re finding that the BeyonDSL broadband connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods e.g weekends and during the evening, it may be because of congestion during peak times.
