How to troubleshoot Glide broadband speed problems
Before you start troubleshooting the performance of your Glide internet connection, we suggest that you run a Glide Broadband Speed Test to measure your current broadband speed.
You may also want to find out the minimum download speed you are paying for from Glide.
You can get this information by checking your Glide broadband bill, your Glide contract or by contacting Glide.
Common causes of Glide’s slow internet speed
Is it your Glide internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?
You may need to consider how many apps are running on your device.
The speed problem could be due to over-utilisation of your system resources i.e Memory/CPU and not a problem with Glide’s broadband connection.
If you’re on a computer then you may use the task manager to see your Processor and Memory utilization.
On other device, you could try restarting the device which hopefully should shutdown all applications that may have been using up system resources.
Re-run the Glide Speed test on your PC and your mobile to see how the speedtest results compare between the two devices.
Hopefully this should give you more information to help determine whether the problem lies with your PC/Smartphone or the Glide internet connection.

Is the Wifi network the cause of the slowness?
The root cause of the performance issue could be your Wi-Fi network and not the Glide internet connection.
You could rule out the Wifi by simply connecting your PC directly into the Glide broadband router using an ethernet cable and run the Glide Speed checker again.
If the speed checker result improves when you’re connected using a network cable, this suggests that the problem may be with your wireless network.
A few other things to look further into:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
- Is the Wi-Fi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does the speed improve when your are standing right in-front of the Glide wireless router?
Exactly who’s connected to my wireless network?
Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an open Wifi network? How complex is your wireless network password? It could be time to change it.
Neighbours could be using your Wi-Fi network and using up all your Glide speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your Glide broadband connection! Worse still, they could be conducting illegal activities over your Glide internet connection.
There are 3 applications that you can potentially use to analyze your Wi-Fi network to see who is connected:
- Microsoft Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- Apple users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wifi network troubleshooting application WiFi Analyzer
The above software analyse your wireless network and show you a list of the devices connected.
Should I get a Wi-Fi network booster for my Glide broadband?
If you discover that you have Wi-Fi coverage gaps in your home, a Wifi extender also known as a wireless Booster may be the best solution to strengthen your Wifi signal to cover any black spots.
The Wifi extender picks up your existing wireless network signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the wireless network signal to extend it’s reach.
Place the wireless booster where your Wi-Fi network signal from the Glide broadband router is becoming weaker.
Position it near where your Wifi network signal drops down to two bars. Walk around your home with a mobile phone to try and establish where this is.
When did you last upgrade the Glide internet router?
The Glide and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to support new features and improve reliability as technology evolves. Always ensure that your Glide broadband internet router is running on the most up to date software.
Most Glide broadband routers will allow you to perform the software update by logging on the Glide broadband router and simply clicking on a button to do the upgrade.
If you can’t do this, contact Glide and they will be able to perform the upgrade for you or talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.
As well as upgrading the software, if you have had router for a long time, it is worth speaking to Glide to request for a hardware upgrade.
Is the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most likely reason for Glide broadband performance issues in your area and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered using phone lines.
If you’re unsure if this is relevant in your case, contact Glide who will be able to run the relevant connection checks to see if there is a fault on the Glide internet line.
Is the performance issue because of Glide Internet congestion?
If you’re finding that the Glide broadband connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods e.g weekends or evenings, it may be due to congestion during peak times.
You should speak to Glide to check your guaranteed speed.

Re-testing your Glide broadband connection
After the problem has been fixed either by yourself or Glide, retest the broadband connection using at least two separate Speedtests to ensure the fault is resolved:
