How to troubleshoot Green ISP broadband speed problems

Green ISP Internet Speedchecker - Slow broadband speed

Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your Green ISP broadband connection, we recommend that you perform a Green ISP Internet Speedtest to confirm your current broadband speed.

It is also a good idea find out the minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from Green ISP.

You can find this information by checking your Green ISP broadband bill, your Green ISP contract or by contacting Green ISP.

Common causes of Green ISP’s slow internet speed

Is it your Green ISP internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to consider how many applications are currently running on your device.

The speed problem could be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources i.e RAM/CPU and as opposed to an issue with Green ISP’s broadband connection.

If you’re on a computer then you can use the task manager to check your CPU and RAM utilization.

On any other device, you could try restarting the device which should hopefully terminate all apps that may have been using up your device resources.

Run the Green ISP Speed test on your personal computer and your mobile phone to see how the speed test results differ between the two devices.

This should hopefully give you some info to help determine if the problem lies with your device or the Green ISP internet connection.

Is your Wifi network the cause of the issue?

The root cause of the performance issue may be your Wi-Fi network as opposed to the Green ISP internet connection.

You can rule out the wireless network by simply connecting your computer directly to the Green ISP broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the Green ISP Speed checker again.

If the speed checker result is better when you’re connected using a network cable, this suggests that the issue may be with your Wifi network.

A few other things to investigate:

  • Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
  • Is the Wi-Fi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
  • Does the speed improve when you’re standing right in-front of the Green ISP broadband router?

Exactly who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an un-secured Wi-Fi network? How complex is your Wifi network password? It could be time to change it.

Neighbors could be using your Wi-Fi network and eating up all the Green ISP bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Green ISP broadband connection! Worse still, they may be conducting illegal activities using your Green ISP internet connection.

The above software will scan your Wi-Fi network and show you a list of the everything on your wifi.

Should I get a Wifi booster for my Green ISP broadband?

If you discover that you have Wi-Fi black spots at your house, a Wi-Fi network extender aka a Wi-Fi Booster may be the best fix to strengthen your wireless signal to cover any black spots.

The Wi-Fi network extender picks up your existing wireless signal as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wifi signal to extend it’s coverage.

Position the wireless extender near the position where your Wifi network signal from the Green ISP broadband router is starting to become weaker.

Place it approximately where your Wi-Fi network signal drops down to two signal bars. Walk around your house with a mobile phone to find where this location is.

Is the issue external to your home (at the exchange)?
