How to troubleshoot Green ISP broadband performance issues

It is also a good idea find out the minimum download speed you have subscribed to from Green ISP.
You can get this information by checking a Green ISP broadband bill, your Green ISP contract or by contacting Green ISP.
Potential causes of Green ISP’s slow broadband performance
Is it your Green ISP internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You may need to check how many apps are running on your device.
The performance issue could be due to over-utilisation of your device’s resources e.g RAM/CPU and not a problem with Green ISP’s internet connection.
If you’re on a computer then you may use the task manager to check your CPU and RAM usage.
On any other device, you should try restarting the device which should hopefully shutdown all programs that may be hogging your systems resources.
Run the Green ISP Speed checker on your PC and your phone to check how the speedtest results differ between the two devices.
This should hopefully provide you with some information to help determine if the issue lies with your device or the Green ISP internet connection.

Is the Wi-Fi network the issue?
The root cause of the performance problem could be your internal Wifi network and not the Green ISP broadband internet connection.
You could rule out the Wifi by connecting your computer directly into the Green ISP broadband router using an ethernet cable and run the Green ISP Speed checker again.
If the performance improves when you are connected via a network cable, this indicates that the problem could be with the Wi-Fi network.
A few other things to investigate:
- Are the WiFi channels that you are using for your wireless network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
- Is your Wifi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does the performance get better when you’re stood right infront of the Green ISP wireless router?
Who is connected to my Wi-Fi network?
Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been hacked? Do you have an open Wifi network? How secure is your wireless network password? It may be time to change it.
Neighbours could be using your wireless network and using up all your Green ISP bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Green ISP internet connection! Worse than that, they may be carrying out illegal activities over your Green ISP broadband connection.
There are 3 apps that you can potentially utlise to analyze your Wifi network to see who’s connected:
- Microsoft Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- IOS users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- WiFi scanning application WiFi Analyzer
The above applications will scan your Wi-Fi network and display a list of the connected devices.
Do I need a Wifi booster for my Green ISP broadband?
If you discover that there are Wifi coverage gaps at your home, a wireless network extender aka a Wi-Fi Booster may be the best solution to strengthen your wireless signal to cover any black spots.
The Wifi network extender simply picks up the existing wireless signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi signal to increase it’s coverage.
Position the Wifi network booster/extender near the position where your wireless signal from your Green ISP internet router is becoming weaker.
Position it approximately where your wireless network signal is dropping down to less than two bars. Walk around your house with a mobile phone to try and establish where this location is.

Is the cause of the problem outside your property (at the exchange)?

If you are not sure if this is applicable to you, you should contact Green ISP who should be able to carry out the relevant connection checks to see if there is a issue on the Green ISP internet line.
