How to troubleshoot ICTS Group internet speed issues

ICTS Group Internet speed test - Slow broadband speed

Before you begin troubleshooting the performance of your ICTS Group internet connection, we suggest that you perform a ICTS Group Broadband Speedtest to measure your current connection speed.

It is a good idea to also find out the minimum download speed that you are paying for from ICTS Group.

You can find this information by checking your ICTS Group broadband bill, your ICTS Group contract or by contacting ICTS Group.

Possible causes of ICTS Group’s slow internet performance

Is it your ICTS Group internet connection that is slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to check the number of apps are currently running on your device.

The speed problem may be due to over-utilisation of your system resources e.g Memory/CPU Processor and as opposed to a problem with ICTS Group’s broadband connection.

If you are on a laptop then you may use the task manager to check your CPU and RAM utilization.

On any other device, you should try rebooting the device which should hopefully shut down all programs that may be using up your device resources.

Run the ICTS Group Speedtest on your PC and your phone to check how the speed test results differ between the 2 devices.

This should hopefully provide you with more info to help determine whether the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the ICTS Group broadband connection.

Is the Wi-Fi network the cause of the performance issue?

The root cause of the performance problem could be your Wifi network as opposed to the ICTS Group broadband connection.

You can rule out the wireless network by connecting your computer directly into the ICTS Group broadband router with a network cable and run the ICTS Group Speed test again.

If the speed test result is better when you’re connected via a network cable, this shows that the issue could be with your internal wireless network.

Possible things to check:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
  • Is your wireless signal from the broadband router obstructed?
  • Does your performance improve when your are standing directly in-front of the ICTS Group wireless router?

Who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been shared? Do you have an open Wifi network? How secure is your Wi-Fi network password? It may be time to change it.

Neighbours could be on your wireless network and using up all the ICTS Group speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your ICTS Group internet connection! Worse than that, they could be carrying out illegal activities on your ICTS Group broadband connection.

ICTS Group WiFi issues

Here are three apps to utlise to analyse your Wifi network to check who’s connected:

The above apps will scan your wireless network and produce a list of the devices connected.

Do I need a Wifi booster for my ICTS Group broadband?

If you find that there are Wi-Fi black holes in your home, a wireless extender also known as a Wifi Booster may be the best solution to increase your Wifi signal to cover any black holes.

The Wifi network booster picks up your existing Wi-Fi network signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to increase it’s coverage.

Position the Wi-Fi network booster near where your Wi-Fi network signal from your ICTS Group broadband router is becoming weaker.

Place it approximately where your wireless network signal is dropping down to two bars. Walk around your house with a tablet to try and establish where this location is.

When was the last time you upgraded the ICTS Group internet router?

ICTS Group router upgrade

The ICTS Group and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently upgraded to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Ensure that the ICTS Group broadband router is running the most up to date software.

The majority of ICTS Group internet routers will allow you to perform the software update by simply logging into the ICTS Group broadband router and simply clicking on a button to start the upgrade.

If you can’t do this, get in touch with ICTS Group and they will be able to perform the upgrade for you or alternatively, talk you through the process.

In addition to updating the software, if you have had the same router for a long time, it’s probably worth talking to ICTS Group to ask for a router upgrade.

Is the fault outside your property (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most likely reason for ICTS Group broadband performance problems in your property and it’s more common for broadband connections that are delivered using phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is relevant in your case, you should contact ICTS Group who should be able to conduct the appropriate line tests to check if there is a issue on the ICTS Group internet line.

Is the issue because of ICTS Group Internet congestion?

If you are finding that the ICTS Group internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods i.e. weekends or evenings, it may be because of congestion during peak times.

You should contact ICTS Group to check your guaranteed speed.
