How to troubleshoot ICUK broadband performance issues
Before starting to troubleshoot the performance of your ICUK internet connection, we suggest that you run a ICUK Broadband Speedtest to confirm your current connection speed.

Possible causes of ICUK’s slow internet performance
Is it your ICUK broadband that is slow or is it your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You may need to consider how many applications are currently running on your device.
The speed issue could be due to over-utilisation of your system resources e.g RAM/CPU and as opposed to a problem with ICUK’s broadband connection.

Is your Wi-Fi network the issue?
The cause of the performance problem could be your wireless and not the ICUK broadband internet connection.
You could rule out the Wifi network by simply connecting your PC directly to the ICUK broadband router using a network cable and then run the ICUK Speedtest again.
If the speed checker result is better when you are connected using an ethernet cable, this indicates that the issue could be with your internal wireless network.
A number of things to look further into:
- Are the WiFi channels that you are using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
- Is your wireless signal from the broadband router obstructed?
- Does your performance get better when you’re standing right in-front of the ICUK wireless router?
Who’s connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured Wifi network? How strong is your Wifi network password? It could be time to update it.
Others could be using your wireless network and using up all your ICUK bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos over your ICUK internet connection! Worse than that, they could be conducting illegal activities on your ICUK broadband connection.

Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my ICUK broadband?
If you discover that there are Wi-Fi coverage gaps at your property, a wireless network extender aka a Wifi Booster is the best fix to increase your wireless signal to cover any black spots.
The Wifi extender simply picks up your existing Wifi signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to increase it’s coverage.
Position the Wi-Fi network booster near the position where your Wi-Fi network signal from the ICUK internet router is becoming weaker.
Place it approximately where your wireless signal drops down to two signal bars. Walk around your home with a smartphone to find where this is.
When did you last upgrade the ICUK broadband router?
The ICUK and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly upgraded to provide new features and improve reliability as technology evolves. Ensure that the ICUK broadband internet router is running the most up to date software.

If you are unsure if this is applicable to you, you should contact ICUK who will be able to carry out the relevant line tests to check if there is a problem on the ICUK internet connection.
Is it due to ICUK Internet congestion?
If you’re finding that the ICUK internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods e.g weekends and evenings, it may be because of congestion during peak hours.
You should speak to ICUK to check your minimum speed.
