Troubleshooting InvicTel internet performance issues

Before starting to troubleshoot the speed of your InvicTel broadband connection, we suggest that you perform a InvicTel Internet Speed Test to confirm your current internet speed.
It is a good idea to also confirm the guaranteed minimum download speed you have subscribed to from InvicTel.
You can find this info by checking a InvicTel broadband bill, your InvicTel contract or by contacting InvicTel.
Potential causes of InvicTel’s slow internet speed
Is it your InvicTel internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?
You need to consider how many applications are running on your device.
The speed issue could be due to over-utilization of your system resources e.g Memory/CPU and not a problem with InvicTel’s internet connection.
If you are on a computer then you may use the task manager to see your CPU and Memory utilisation.
On any other device, you should try restarting the device which hopefully should kill all apps that may be hogging your device resources.
Re-run the InvicTel Speed test on your personal computer and your phone to check how the speed test results compare between the 2 devices.
This should hopefully give you more information to help determine whether the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the InvicTel broadband connection.

Is your wireless the reason for the issues?
The root cause of the performance issue may be your wireless as opposed to the InvicTel broadband connection.
You can rule out the Wifi network by simply connecting your computer directly to the InvicTel broadband router with a network cable and then run the InvicTel Speedtest again.
If the speed checker result improves when you’re connected by a network cable, this indicates that the problem may be with your Wifi network.
A few other things to check:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wifi network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
- Is your wireless network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does the speed improve when your are standing directly infront of the InvicTel internet router?
Who is connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your wireless network password has not been hacked? Do you have an un-secured wireless network? How strong is your wireless network password? It may be time to change it.
Neighbours could be using your Wifi network and using up all the InvicTel bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video over your InvicTel internet connection! Worse than that, they could be conducting illegal activities over your InvicTel internet connection.

There are three apps that you can utlise to analyse your Wifi network to see who’s connected:
- Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- IOS users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wifi network scanning tool WiFi Analyzer
The above apps scan your Wi-Fi network and show you a list of the everything on your wifi.
Do I need a wireless network booster for my InvicTel broadband?
If you discover that you have Wi-Fi black holes at your property, a Wi-Fi network extender also known as a Wi-Fi Booster is the best fix to boost your wireless signal to cover any black spots.
The Wifi network booster simply picks up your existing wireless signal as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to extend it’s coverage.
Position the Wi-Fi network booster near where your Wifi network signal from the InvicTel internet router is becoming weaker.
Place it approximately where your Wi-Fi network signal is dropping down to two signal bars. Walk around your home with a smartphone to try and establish where this location is.
When did you last upgrade the InvicTel broadband router?

The InvicTel and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to support new features and improve reliability as technology evolves. Always ensure that your InvicTel broadband router is running the most up-to-date software.
Most InvicTel internet routers allow you to carry out the software update by logging on the InvicTel broadband router and simply clicking on a button to perform the upgrade.
If you can’t do this, get in touch with InvicTel and they will be able to perform the upgrade for you or talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.
In addition to upgrading the software, if you have had hardware for a long period, it’s worth talking to InvicTel to request for a router upgrade.
Is the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most common cause for InvicTel broadband performance problems in your home and it’s more common for internet broadband connections that are delivered through copper phone lines.
If you are unsure if this is applicable to you, contact InvicTel who will be able to run the relevant line tests to see if there is a problem on the InvicTel broadband line.
Is the issue because of InvicTel broadband congestion?
If you’re finding that the InvicTel broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain periods i.e. weekends and evenings, it may be because of congestion during peak times.
You should contact InvicTel to find out your guaranteed speed.
