Troubleshooting Kijoma internet speed issues

Kijoma Internet Speedchecker - Slow broadband speed

Before starting to troubleshoot the speed of your Kijoma internet connection, we suggest that you perform a Kijoma Broadband Speedtest to confirm your current broadband speed.

You may also want to find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you are paying for from Kijoma.

You can get this info by checking your Kijoma broadband bill, your Kijoma contract or by contacting Kijoma.

Probable causes of Kijoma’s slow broadband speed

Is it the Kijoma broadband that is slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You may need to check how many apps are currently running on your device.

The speed issue may be due to over-utilisation of your system resources e.g Memory/CPU and not an issue with Kijoma’s broadband connection.

If you are on a computer then you may use the task manager to see your CPU and RAM utilization.

On any other device, you could try rebooting the device which hopefully should terminate all programs that may be using up system resources.

Run the Kijoma Speed test on your computer and your phone to check how the speedtest results differ between the 2 devices.

This should hopefully provide you with some information to work with in terms of whether the issue is with your device or the Kijoma broadband connection.

Is your wireless network the problem?

The cause of the performance issue could be your wireless network as opposed to the Kijoma broadband connection.

You could rule out the Wifi network by simply connecting your PC directly to the Kijoma broadband router with a network cable and then run the Kijoma Speedtest again.

If the performance improves when you’re connected using an ethernet cable, this proves that the problem may be with your Wifi network.

Possible things to investigate:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbours?
  • Is your wireless signal from the broadband router obstructed?
  • Does your performance improve when you’re stood right in-front of the Kijoma wireless router?

Exactly who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an un-secured wireless network? How complex is your Wifi network password? It may be time to update it.

Others could be using your Wi-Fi network and eating up all the Kijoma speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video over your Kijoma broadband connection! Worse than that, they could be carrying out illegal activities over your Kijoma internet connection.

Kijoma WiFi not working

Here are 3 apps that you can potentially use to scan your Wi-Fi network to check who’s connected:

The above software will scan your Wi-Fi network and show you a list of the connected devices.

Do I need a Wifi booster for my Kijoma broadband?

If you discover that there are wireless coverage gaps at your home, a wireless network extender aka a Wi-Fi Booster is the best fix to increase your Wi-Fi signal to cover any black spots.

The wireless network extender simply picks up your existing wireless network signal as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi signal to increase it’s coverage.

Place the wireless booster/extender near where your wireless signal from the Kijoma internet router is starting to become weaker.

Position it near where your wireless network signal drops down to less than two bars. Walk around your home with a tablet to try and establish where this is.

When was the last time you upgraded the Kijoma broadband router?

Kijoma router upgrade

The Kijoma and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to support new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Always ensure that your Kijoma internet router is running the most up to date software.

Most Kijoma internet routers allow you to carry out the software upgrade by simply logging on the Kijoma broadband router and simply clicking on a button to perform the upgrade.

If you can’t do this, get in touch with Kijoma and they will do this for you or alternatively, talk you through the process.

As well as updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long time, it’s probably worth speaking to Kijoma to request for a router upgrade.

Is the cause of the problem outside your property (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common cause for Kijoma broadband performance issues in your area and it’s more common with broadband connections that are delivered via phone lines.

If you are unsure if this is relevant in your case, contact Kijoma who should be able to carry out the relevant line checks to see if there is a issue on the Kijoma broadband connection.

Is the issue because of Kijoma Internet congestion?

If you are finding that the Kijoma internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain times i.e. over weekends and during the evening, it may be due to congestion during peak times.

You should speak to Kijoma to check your minimum speed.
