How to troubleshoot Medwave broadband speed issues
Before starting to troubleshoot the performance of your Medwave broadband connection, we suggest that you perform a Medwave Internet Speed Test to confirm your current broadband speed.
You may also want to find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from Medwave.
You can get this info by checking a Medwave broadband bill, your Medwave contract or by contacting Medwave.
Common causes of Medwave’s slow internet speed
Is it your Medwave broadband that is running slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?
You need to check the number of applications are running on your device.
The performance issue may be due to over-utilisation of your device’s resources i.e RAM/CPU Processor and not a problem with Medwave’s internet connection.
If you’re on a computer then you may use the task manager to see your CPU and RAM usage.
On other device, you could try restarting the device which hopefully will terminate all applications that may have been hogging your device resources.
Run the Medwave Speedtest on your PC and your mobile to see how the speed test results compare between the 2 devices.
Hopefully this should provide you with more information to help determine if the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the Medwave internet connection.

Is the Wifi the cause of the slowness?
The cause of the performance issue could be your Wifi and not the Medwave broadband connection.
You can rule out the Wi-Fi network by simply connecting your PC directly into the Medwave broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the Medwave Speed checker again.
If the speed test result improves when you are connected using a network cable, this indicates that the problem could be with the Wi-Fi network.
Possible things to look further into:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
- Is your wireless signal from the broadband router obstructed?
- Does your speed get better when you’re stood right infront of the Medwave wireless router?
Who is connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an open wireless network? How strong is your Wifi network password? It could be time to update it.
Neighbors could be on your Wi-Fi network and eating up all your Medwave bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Medwave internet connection! Worse than that, they could be conducting illegal activities using your Medwave broadband connection.
Here are 3 applications that you can use to scan your Wi-Fi network to check who’s connected:
- Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- IOS users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wifi network scanning tool WiFi Analyzer
The above software will scan your wireless network and produce a list of the devices connected.
Should I get a wireless network booster for my Medwave broadband?
You may find that there are Wifi black holes at your house, a Wifi network extender also known as a Wi-Fi Booster is the best solution to increase your wireless signal to cover any coverage gaps.
The Wifi network booster simply picks up your existing wireless signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to increase it’s reach.
Place the Wifi booster/extender near the position where your Wi-Fi network signal from the Medwave broadband router is starting to become weaker.
Position it near where your wireless signal drops down to less than 2 signal bars. Walk around your property with a mobile phone to find where this location is.
When did you last upgrade the Medwave broadband router?
The Medwave and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly updated to support new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Ensure that your Medwave internet router is running on the latest software.
Most Medwave internet routers allow you to carry out the software update by logging into the Medwave broadband router and simply clicking a button to perform the upgrade.
If you can’t do this, get in touch with Medwave and they will do this for you or talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.
As well as updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long period, it’s worth speaking to Medwave to request for a router upgrade.
Is the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most likely reason for Medwave broadband performance issues in your home and is more common for broadband connections that are delivered through copper phone lines.
If you are not sure if this is applicable to you, contact Medwave who should be able to conduct the relevant connection checks to check if there is a fault on the Medwave internet line.
Is it due to Medwave Internet congestion?
If you are finding that the Medwave broadband connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods e.g over weekends or evenings, then it may be due to congestion during peak times.
You should speak to Medwave to check your minimum speed.
