Troubleshooting Medwave internet performance issues

Before you begin troubleshooting the performance of your Medwave broadband connection, we recommend that you perform a Medwave Internet Speed Test to benchmark your current broadband speed.
Also find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from Medwave.
You can find this information by checking your Medwave broadband bill, your Medwave contract or by contacting Medwave.
Common causes of Medwave’s slow internet speed
Is it your Medwave internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You may need to consider how many apps are running on your device.
The speed issue could be due to over-utilisation of your device’s resources i.e RAM/CPU Processor and as opposed to a problem with Medwave’s internet connection.
If you’re on a laptop then you can use the task manager to see your CPU and RAM utilization.
On other device, you should try rebooting the device which hopefully should kill all applications that may be using up system resources.
Re-run the Medwave Speed checker on your computer and your mobile to see how the speedtest results compare between the 2 devices.
Hopefully this should give you more information to help determine if the issue is with your PC/Smartphone or the Medwave broadband connection.

Is the wireless network the cause of the slowness?
The root cause of the performance issue may be your wireless network and not the Medwave broadband connection.
You can rule out the Wi-Fi network by simply connecting your PC directly into the Medwave broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the Medwave Speed checker again.
If the performance is better when you are connected using a network cable, this shows that the issue may be with the Wi-Fi network.
A number of things to investigate:
- Are the Wireless channels that you are using for your Wifi network network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbours?
- Is the Wi-Fi network signal from the internet router obstructed?
- Does the speed improve when your are standing right in-front of the Medwave internet router?
Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your wireless network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured Wi-Fi network? How secure is your wireless network password? It could be time to change it.
Neighbors could be on your Wifi network and using up all the Medwave speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your Medwave broadband connection! Worse still, they may be carrying out illegal activities over your Medwave internet connection.

There are 3 apps to use to scan your Wi-Fi network to see who is connected:
- Microsoft users can use Wireless network watcher
- Apple users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- WiFi troubleshooting application WiFi Analyzer
The above apps analyse your Wi-Fi network and display a list of the everything on your wifi.
Should I get a Wifi booster for my Medwave broadband?
If you find that you have Wifi black spots at your home, a Wifi network extender also known as a Wi-Fi Booster is the best fix to strengthen your wireless signal to cover any black holes.
The Wifi extender picks up your existing Wi-Fi network signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the wireless network signal to increase it’s reach.
Place the wireless network extender near the position where your Wifi network signal from your Medwave internet router is becoming weaker.
Position it approximately where your Wifi signal drops down to less than 2 bars. Walk around your property with a tablet to determine where this location is.
When was the last time you upgraded the Medwave broadband router?

The Medwave and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently updated to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Always ensure that the Medwave broadband router is running on the latest software.
The majority of Medwave broadband routers allow you to perform the software upgrade by simply logging into the Medwave broadband router and simply clicking a button to start the upgrade.
If you can’t do this, get in touch with Medwave and they will do this for you or alternatively, talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.
As well as updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long period, it’s probably worth speaking to Medwave to request for a hardware upgrade.
Is the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most likely reason for Medwave broadband performance issues in your property and it’s more common for internet broadband connections that are delivered via phone lines.
If you’re unsure if this is applicable to you, contact Medwave who should be able to carry out the appropriate connection tests to see if there is a issue on the Medwave internet connection.
Is it because of Medwave broadband congestion?
If you are finding that the Medwave broadband connection speed in your area is slow during certain times e.g weekends or during the evening, it may be due to congestion during peak times.
You should contact Medwave to find out your guaranteed speed.
