How to troubleshoot Morespeed internet performance issues

Morespeed Internet speed test - Slow broadband speed

Before you begin troubleshooting the performance of your Morespeed internet connection, we recommend that you run a Morespeed Internet Speedtest to measure your current broadband speed.

It is also a good idea confirm the guaranteed minimum download speed you are paying for from Morespeed.

You can find this information by checking a Morespeed broadband bill, your Morespeed contract or by contacting Morespeed.

Potential causes of Morespeed’s slow internet performance

Is it the Morespeed internet connection that is slow or could it be your device (PC/laptop/phone)?

You may need to consider the number of applications are currently running on your device.

The performance problem could be due to the over-utilization of your system resources e.g RAM/memory/CPU Processor and not a problem with Morespeed’s broadband connection.

If you are on a PC then you can use the task manager to check your CPU and RAM utilisation.

On other device, you should try restarting the device which hopefully should shut down all applications that may be hogging your device resources.

Re-run the Morespeed Speed test on your personal computer and your phone to check how the results compare between the two devices.

This should hopefully provide you with some info to work with in terms of whether the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the Morespeed internet connection.

Is the wireless network the issue?

The root cause of the performance problem may be your wireless as opposed to the Morespeed broadband internet connection.

You can rule out the Wifi by connecting your computer directly into the Morespeed broadband router using an ethernet cable and then run the Morespeed Speed test again.

If the speed improves when you are connected by an ethernet cable, this shows that the issue may be with your wireless network.

Possible things to check:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you are using for your Wifi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
  • Is your wireless network signal from the wireless router obstructed?
  • Does the performance improve when you’re stood right in-front of the Morespeed broadband router?

Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured Wi-Fi network? How secure is your Wifi network password? It could be time to update it.

Neighbors could be using your Wifi network and eating up all your Morespeed bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your Morespeed internet connection! Worse than that, they could be carrying out illegal activities over your Morespeed internet connection.

Morespeed wireless no connection

Here are three apps that you can use to scan your Wifi network to see who is connected:

The above applications will scan your wireless network and show you a list of the everything on your wifi.

Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my Morespeed broadband?

If you discover that there are Wi-Fi black holes in your property, a Wifi network extender aka a Wifi Booster is the best solution to boost your wireless signal to cover any coverage holes.

The Wifi extender picks up the existing wireless network signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wifi network signal to increase it’s reach.

Place the Wi-Fi network booster where your wireless signal from your Morespeed internet router is starting to become weaker.

Place it near where your wireless signal is dropping down to less than 2 bars. Walk around your home with a mobile phone to determine where this location is.

When was the last time you upgraded the Morespeed internet router?

Morespeed router upgrade

The Morespeed and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly upgraded to provide new features and improve reliability as technology evolves.  Ensure that your Morespeed internet router is running on the most up-to-date software.

Most Morespeed broadband routers allow you to perform the software upgrade by simply logging into the Morespeed broadband router and simply clicking on a button to perform the upgrade.

If you can’t do this, get in touch with Morespeed and they will perform the upgrade for you or alternatively, talk you through performing the upgrade yourself.

In addition to upgrading the software, if you have had the same router for a long period, it’s probably worth speaking to Morespeed to request for a router upgrade.

Is the fault external to your home (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common cause for Morespeed broadband performance issues in your area and is more common with internet broadband connections that are delivered via copper phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is applicable to you, contact Morespeed who should be able to carry out the appropriate connection tests to see if there is a problem on the Morespeed internet connection.

Is it because of Morespeed Internet congestion?

If you’re finding that the Morespeed internet connection speed in your area is slows down during certain times e.g over weekends and during the evening, it may be due to congestion during peak hours.

You should contact Morespeed to find out your guaranteed speed.
