Troubleshooting Oosha internet speed issues
Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your Oosha internet connection, we recommend that you run a Oosha Internet Speedtest to measure your current internet speed.
It is also a good idea confirm the minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from Oosha.
You can find this information by checking your Oosha broadband bill, your Oosha contract or by contacting Oosha.
Probable causes of Oosha’s slow broadband performance
Is it your Oosha broadband that is slow or could it be your device (PC/laptop/phone)?
You need to consider the number of applications are running on your device.
The performance problem could be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources e.g Memory/CPU Processor and as opposed to a problem with Oosha’s broadband connection.
If you are on a laptop then you can use the task manager to see your Processor and Memory utilization.
On any other device, you should try rebooting the device which hopefully should shut down all apps that may be hogging your systems resources.
Run the Oosha Speed test on your computer and your phone to check how the speed test results differ between the two devices.
Hopefully this should provide you with some info to help determine if the issue lies with your PC/Smartphone or the Oosha broadband connection.

Is your Wifi the cause of the issue?
The cause of the performance problem may be your internal Wifi network as opposed to the Oosha broadband internet connection.
You could rule out the Wifi by connecting your PC directly to the Oosha broadband router with an ethernet cable and then run the Oosha Speed checker again.
If the speed checker result is better when you are connected by a network cable, this shows that the problem may be with your Wi-Fi network.
A number of things to check:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wifi network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
- Is your wireless network signal from the broadband router obstructed?
- Does your performance improve when your are stood directly infront of the Oosha internet router?
Who is connected to my Wi-Fi network?
Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an un-secured Wifi network? How strong is your Wifi network password? It could be time to change it.
Others could be using your wireless network and using up all the Oosha speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video over your Oosha broadband connection! Worse still, they could be conducting illegal activities using your Oosha broadband connection.
There are 3 applications that you can use to scan your wireless network to check who’s connected:
- Microsoft users can use Wireless network watcher
- MAC users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wireless network scanning application WiFi Analyzer
The above applications will scan your wireless network and display a list of the connected devices.
Do I need a wireless network booster for my Oosha broadband?
If you discover that there are wireless coverage gaps in your house, a Wifi network extender aka a wireless Booster may be the best solution to increase your Wifi signal to cover any coverage gaps.
The wireless network extender picks up the existing Wifi signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wifi signal to increase it’s reach.
Position the Wi-Fi network booster/extender where your Wifi network signal from the Oosha internet router is starting to become weaker.
Place it near where your wireless signal is dropping down to two signal bars. Walk around your home with a tablet to find where this is.
When was the last time you upgraded the Oosha internet router?
The Oosha and broadband infrastructure, in general, are frequently upgraded to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves. Always ensure that the Oosha broadband router is running on the latest software.
The majority of Oosha broadband routers will allow you to perform the software upgrade by simply logging on the Oosha broadband router and simply clicking on a button to start the upgrade.
If you cannot do this, get in touch with Oosha and they will do this for you or talk you through the process.
As well as upgrading the software, if you have had the same router for a long time, it is worth speaking to Oosha to ask for a router upgrade.
Is the root cause of the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most likely cause for Oosha broadband performance issues in your home and it’s more common with broadband connections that are delivered via copper phone lines.
If you’re not sure if this is relevant in your case, contact Oosha who will be able to conduct the appropriate line checks to see if there is a issue on the Oosha internet connection.
Is the performance issue due to Oosha Internet congestion?
If you’re finding that the Oosha broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain periods i.e. over weekends and during the evening, it may be because of congestion during peak hours.
You should contact Oosha to find out your guaranteed speed.
