How to troubleshoot ResQNet internet performance problems
Before starting to troubleshoot the performance of your ResQNet broadband connection, we recommend that you run a ResQNet Broadband Speedtest to measure your current connection speed.
It is a good idea to also find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you have subscribed to from ResQNet.
You can find this info by checking a ResQNet broadband bill, your ResQNet contract or by contacting ResQNet.
Probable causes of ResQNet’s slow broadband speed
Is it the ResQNet broadband that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?
You may need to consider the number of apps are currently running on your device.
The speed problem may be due to over-utilization of your system resources e.g Memory/CPU and not an issue with ResQNet’s internet connection.
If you are on a PC then you can use the task manager to see your CPU and Memory usage.
On other device, you could try rebooting the device which hopefully should shut down all applications that may be using up your systems resources.
Run the ResQNet Speedtest on your PC and your mobile phone to check how the results compare between the two devices.
Hopefully this should give you more info to help determine if the problem lies with your PC/Smartphone or the ResQNet internet connection.

Is your wireless network the issue?
The cause of the performance issue may be your wireless network and not the ResQNet broadband internet connection.
You can rule out the Wifi network by connecting your computer directly into the ResQNet broadband router with a network cable and run the ResQNet Speed test again.
If the performance improves when you’re connected using an ethernet cable, this shows that the issue may be with your internal wireless network.
Possible things to check:
- Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your Wifi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
- Is your Wifi network signal from the wireless router obstructed?
- Does your performance improve when you’re stood directly infront of the ResQNet wireless router?
Who is connected to my Wifi network?
Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an un-secured wireless network? How complex is your wireless network password? It could be time to update it.
Neighbors could be on your wireless network and using up all the ResQNet speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos over your ResQNet internet connection! Worse still, they may be carrying out illegal activities using your ResQNet internet connection.
Here are 3 applications that you can potentially utlise to analyze your wireless network to check who’s connected:
- Microsoft Windows users can use Wireless network watcher
- MAC users can use whoFi (who is on my Wifi)
- wifi network scanning application WiFi Analyzer
The above software scan your Wifi network and display a list of the everything on your wifi.
Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my ResQNet broadband?
If you discover that you have wireless coverage holes at your home, a wireless network extender also known as a Wifi Booster may be the best fix to increase your Wi-Fi signal to cover any black holes.
The Wifi booster picks up the existing Wi-Fi network signal as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the wireless signal to increase it’s coverage.
Position the wireless booster/extender near where your Wifi signal from the ResQNet broadband router is becoming weaker.
Place it near where your Wifi network signal is dropping down to less than 2 signal bars. Walk around your property with a mobile phone to try and establish where this location is.
When was the last time you upgraded the ResQNet broadband router?
The ResQNet and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly upgraded to provide new features and improve reliability as technology evolves. Ensure that the ResQNet broadband internet router is running the most up to date software.
Most ResQNet internet routers will allow you to carry out the software update by logging on the ResQNet broadband router and simply clicking a button to do the update.
If you cannot do this, get in touch with ResQNet and they will be able to perform the upgrade for you or guide you through the process.
In addition to updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long period, it may be worth talking to ResQNet to request for a hardware upgrade.
Is the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?
This is probably the most common reason for ResQNet broadband performance issues in your home and is more common with broadband connections that are delivered using phone lines.
If you’re not sure if this is applicable to you, contact ResQNet who will be able to conduct the appropriate line tests to see if there is a fault on the ResQNet broadband line.
Is the issue due to ResQNet broadband congestion?
If you’re finding that the ResQNet internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain periods e.g over weekends or during the evening, it may be due to congestion during peak hours.
You should speak to ResQNet to check your guaranteed speed.
