Troubleshooting ResQNet broadband performance issues

Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your ResQNet internet connection, we recommend that you run a ResQNet Broadband Speed Test to measure your current broadband speed.

Also find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you have subscribed to from ResQNet.

Likely causes of ResQNet’s slow broadband performance

Is it your ResQNet broadband that is slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to check the number of applications are running on your device.

The speed problem could be due to over-utilization of your system resources e.g RAM/memory/CPU and not a problem with ResQNet’s broadband connection.

If you’re on a laptop then you can use the task manager to see your Processor and RAM utilization.

On any other device, you should try rebooting the device which hopefully will shut down all apps that may have been using up system resources.

Is your wireless the issue?

The cause of the performance issue could be your Wifi as opposed to the ResQNet internet connection.

You could rule out the wireless network by connecting your PC directly to the ResQNet broadband router with a network cable and run the ResQNet Speed test again.

If the performance is better when you are connected via an ethernet cable, this indicates that the issue may be with your wireless.

Possible things to investigate:

• Are the Wireless channels that you’re using for your wireless network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
• Is your Wi-Fi network signal from the broadband router obstructed?
• Does your performance improve when you’re standing directly in-front of the ResQNet internet router?

Who’s connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wi-Fi network password has not been hacked? Do you have an open Wi-Fi network? How strong is your wireless network password? It may be time to update it.

Neighbors could be on your wireless network and eating up all the ResQNet bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your ResQNet broadband connection! Worse still, they could be conducting illegal activities using your ResQNet internet connection.

Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my ResQNet broadband?

You may find that there are wireless coverage gaps in your home, a wireless extender also known as a wireless Booster may be the best solution to boost your Wifi signal to cover any black spots.

This is probably the most common reason for ResQNet broadband performance issues in your home and it’s more common for broadband connections that are delivered through phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is applicable to you, you should contact ResQNet who will be able to carry out the relevant connection tests to see if there is a problem on the ResQNet internet connection.

Is the issue because of ResQNet broadband congestion?

If you are finding that the ResQNet internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain times e.g weekends or evenings, then it may be due to congestion during peak hours.
