How to troubleshoot TitanADSL broadband speed problems

Before you start troubleshooting the speed of your TitanADSL internet connection, we recommend that you perform a TitanADSL Internet Speedtest to benchmark your current connection speed.

You may also want to confirm the minimum download speed that you are paying for from TitanADSL.

You can find this information by checking a TitanADSL broadband bill, your TitanADSL contract or by contacting TitanADSL.

Probable causes of TitanADSL’s slow broadband performance

Is it the TitanADSL broadband that is running slow or could it be your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You need to check the number of apps are currently running on your device.

The performance issue may be due to the over-utilisation of your system resources i.e RAM/memory/CPU and not an issue with TitanADSL’s internet connection.

If you’re on a PC then you can use the task manager to check your CPU and RAM utilization.

On other device, you could try restarting the device which should hopefully terminate all programs that may be using up system resources.

Re-run the TitanADSL Speedtest on your computer and your phone to check how the speedtest results compare between the 2 devices.

Is the Wi-Fi network the reason for the issues?

The root cause of the performance issue may be your Wifi network as opposed to the TitanADSL broadband internet connection.

You could rule out the Wifi by connecting your PC directly to the TitanADSL broadband router with a network cable and run the TitanADSL Speed checker again.

If the speed checker result improves when you’re connected via an ethernet cable, this proves that the issue may be with the Wi-Fi network.

A number of things to investigate:

• Are the Wireless channels that you are using for your Wifi network network (SSID) overlapping with your neighbors?
• Is the Wifi network signal from the wireless router obstructed?
• Does the speed improve when your are stood directly in-front of the TitanADSL broadband router?

Exactly who’s connected to my Wifi network?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been hacked? Do you have an open wireless network? How strong is your wireless network password? It may be time to change it.

Neighbors could be using your Wi-Fi network and eating up all the TitanADSL bandwidth by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos on your TitanADSL broadband connection! Worse still, they could be conducting illegal activities on your TitanADSL broadband connection.

Do I need a Wifi network booster for my TitanADSL broadband?

If you find that there are Wifi black spots at your house, a wireless network extender also known as a wireless Booster may be the best solution to boost your wireless signal to cover any black holes.

The Wifi network extender picks up the existing wireless network signal just as it is starting to become weaker and re-transmits the Wi-Fi network signal to extend it’s reach.

When did you last upgrade the TitanADSL broadband router?

As well as updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long time, it is worth speaking to TitanADSL to request for a hardware upgrade.

Is the issue outside your property (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common cause for TitanADSL broadband performance problems in your home and it’s more common for internet broadband connections that are delivered using phone lines.

If you’re unsure if this is relevant in your case, contact TitanADSL who should be able to conduct the appropriate line tests to see if there is a problem on the TitanADSL internet line.

Is the issue due to TitanADSL broadband congestion?

If you’re finding that the TitanADSL broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain periods e.g weekends or evenings, then it may be due to congestion during peak hours.

Re-testing your TitanADSL internet connection
