How to troubleshoot Turboweb broadband performance issues

Turboweb Internet Speedchecker - Slow Internet speed

Before you begin troubleshooting the performance of your Turboweb internet connection, we suggest that you perform a Turboweb Internet Speed Test to benchmark your current broadband speed.

It is also a good idea confirm the minimum download speed you are paying for from Turboweb.

You can get this info by checking your Turboweb broadband bill, your Turboweb contract or by contacting Turboweb.

Possible causes of Turboweb’s slow broadband speed

Is it your Turboweb internet connection that is running slow or could it be your device (PC/laptop/phone)?

You may need to check the number of applications are currently running on your device.

The performance issue could be due to the over-utilization of your system resources i.e RAM/CPU and as opposed to an issue with Turboweb’s broadband connection.

If you are on a laptop then you can use the task manager to check your CPU and Memory usage.

On any other device, you could try restarting the device which hopefully will terminate all apps that may have been hogging your systems resources.

Run the Turboweb Speedtest on your computer and your phone to see how the results compare between the 2 devices.

Hopefully this should provide you with some info to help determine if the issue is with your PC/Smartphone or the Turboweb internet connection.

Is the wireless the problem?

The cause of the performance problem may be your Wifi as opposed to the Turboweb broadband connection.

You could rule out the Wifi network by connecting your computer directly into the Turboweb broadband router with a network cable and run the Turboweb Speedtest again.

If the speed test result is better when you are connected using a network cable, this suggests that the problem could be with your Wifi network.

Possible things to investigate:

  • Are the WiFi channels that you’re using for your wireless network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbours?
  • Is your wireless network signal from the broadband router obstructed?
  • Does your speed improve when you’re stood right infront of the Turboweb broadband router?

Who is connected to my wireless network?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been shared? Do you have an un-secured Wi-Fi network? How strong is your wireless network password? It may be time to update it.

Neighbors could be on your Wi-Fi network and eating up all your Turboweb speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or video on your Turboweb broadband connection! Worse than that, they could be carrying out illegal activities on your Turboweb broadband connection.

Turboweb WiFi issues

There are 3 applications to use to scan your Wifi network to see who is connected:

The above applications analyse your Wi-Fi network and produce a list of the devices connected.

Should I get a wireless booster for my Turboweb broadband?

If you find that you have Wi-Fi coverage gaps in your home, a Wifi network extender aka a Wi-Fi Booster is the best fix to increase your wireless signal to cover any coverage gaps.

The Wi-Fi network booster simply picks up the existing Wi-Fi network signal as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the wireless network signal to extend it’s reach.

Position the wireless network booster near where your Wi-Fi network signal from the Turboweb internet router is becoming weaker.

Position it near where your wireless network signal drops down to less than 2 bars. Walk around your home with a mobile phone to find where this is.

When was the last time you upgraded the Turboweb broadband router?

Turboweb ISP router upgrade

The Turboweb and broadband infrastructure, in general, are constantly upgraded to provide new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Ensure that your Turboweb broadband router is running the most up to date software.

The majority of Turboweb internet routers allow you to perform the software upgrade by logging into the Turboweb broadband router and simply clicking a button to start the update.

If you cannot do this, get in touch with Turboweb and they will be able to do this for you or alternatively, talk you through the process.

As well as updating the software, if you have had the same router for a long time, it may be worth talking to Turboweb to ask for a router upgrade.

Is the cause of the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most common cause for Turboweb broadband performance problems in your home and is more common for broadband connections that are delivered using copper phone lines.

If you’re not sure if this is relevant in your case, you should contact Turboweb who will be able to run the relevant line checks to check if there is a problem on the Turboweb broadband connection.

Is the issue because of Turboweb Internet congestion?

If you are finding that the Turboweb broadband connection speed in your area is slows down during certain times e.g weekends or during the evening, then it may be because of congestion during peak times.

You should contact Turboweb to find out your minimum speed.
