Troubleshooting VFast internet speed issues

Before you start troubleshooting the performance of your VFast internet connection, we suggest that you run a VFast Internet Speed Test to confirm your current connection speed.

It is also a good idea find out the guaranteed minimum download speed that you on your broadband package from VFast.

You can get this information by checking a VFast broadband bill, your VFast contract or by contacting VFast.

Common causes of VFast’s slow broadband performance

Is it the VFast internet connection that is running slow or is it your device (laptop/smartphone/PC)?

You may need to consider how many apps are currently running on your device.

The speed issue could be due to the over utilization of your system resources e.g RAM/CPU Processor and as opposed to an issue with VFast’s broadband connection.

If you’re on a computer then you may use the task manager to check your Processor and RAM utilisation.

On other device, you should try restarting the device which hopefully should shutdown all applications that may be using up your device resources.

Run the VFast Speedtest on your PC and your phone to check how the speedtest results differ between the 2 devices.

This should hopefully provide you with more information to work with in terms of whether the issue is with your PC/Smartphone or the VFast internet connection.

Is the Wifi the cause of the issue?

The cause of the performance problem could be your Wi-Fi network as opposed to the VFast broadband internet connection.

You can rule out the wireless network by simply connecting your PC directly to the VFast broadband router using an ethernet cable and then run the VFast Speedtest again.

If the speed test result improves when you’re connected using a network cable, this shows that the problem may be with your Wifi network.

Possible things to look further into:

  • Are the Wireless channels that you are using for your Wi-Fi network network (SSID) overlapping with the neighbors?
  • Is your wireless signal from the internet router obstructed?
  • Does your speed get better when your are standing right infront of the VFast internet router?

Have you checked that your Wifi network password has not been compromised? Do you have an un-secured wireless network? How strong is your Wi-Fi network password? It may be time to update it.

Neighbours could be on your wirelessi network and using up all the VFast speed by downloading, uploading or even streaming music or videos over your VFast internet connection! Worse than that, they may be conducting illegal activities over your VFast internet connection.

Do I need a Wi-Fi network booster for my VFast broadband?

If you discover that there are wireless coverage holes in your home, a Wifi network extender aka a Wifi Booster may be the best fix to strengthen your Wi-Fi signal to cover any black holes.

The Wifi extender simply picks up the existing wireless signal just as it is becoming weaker and re-transmits the Wifi signal to extend it’s reach.

Position the wireless network booster near the position where your wireless network signal from the VFast internet router is becoming weaker.

Place it approximately where your Wi-Fi network signal drops down to less than two bars. Walk around your home with a smartphone to determine where this location is.

When did you last upgrade the VFast broadband router?

The VFast and broadband infrastructure in general are constantly updated to support new features and improve performance as technology evolves.  Ensure that your VFast broadband internet router is running the most up to date software.

Most VFast broadband routers will allow you to carry out the software update by logging on the VFast broadband router and simply clicking on a button to do the upgrade.

If you can’t do this, contact VFast and they will perform the upgrade for you or alternatively, guide you through performing the upgrade yourself.

As well as updating the software, if you have had hardware for a long time, it’s probably worth talking to VFast to ask for a hardware upgrade.

Is the cause of the problem external to your home (at the exchange)?

This is probably the most likely reason for VFast broadband performance problem in your property and it’s more common for broadband connections that are delivered via cooper phone lines.

If you are not sure if this is applicable to you, you should contact VFast who should be able to carry out the appropriate connection tests to see if there is a fault on the VFast broadband line.

Is the issue due to VFast broadband congestion?

If you’re finding that the VFast internet connection speed in your area is slow during certain times e.g weekends or evenings, it may be because of congestion during peak times.

You should contact VFast to find out your minimum speed.
